Vitamin and Mineral Functions

Author: Lewis L Lanier

Peace and serenity are very important to the way we feel, just like the orchids and the meditating Buddhist monk, shown above, would suggest. However, it's our vitamin and mineral functions that are absolutely essential to our human lives. As they each go about performing their different tasks, they ensure our continued good health. The human body is extremely complex in it's many nutritional needs and we need a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, bioflavonoids, and other nutrients, to maintain our good health. Without them our bodies would not be able to perform the many biochemical processes that take place inside us, to release energy from the food that we eat, look curology reviews.

The vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids, enzymes and other nutrients; unlike the more commonly known 'macro nutrients'; the proteins, fats, carbohydrates and water, are known as 'micro nutrients'. This is simply because our bodies require them in much smaller quantities than the four main macro nutrients.

Unfortunately, it's a sad fact, that much of today's farmland has been depleted of it's vitamin and mineral riches due to over farming the same soil for too long. Also, the use of harsh chemical fertilizers and insecticides has polluted the once lush, and nutrient rich, soils of our planet. When you couple this with the indisputable fact that most of our food is now so highly processed and irradiated, then these are the prime reasons why we should all try to make sure that we get our recommended daily allowances of vitamins and minerals by taking health giving supplements.

Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA's)

The recommended daily allowances for vitamins and minerals were established many, many, years ago; and, they were used as a measure of the daily amounts of vitamins and minerals needed by a normal person. However, modern medicine has since proven that the RDA amounts that were laid own all those years ago, were only the bare minimums that would prevent deficiency diseases. Diseases such as Rickets, Scurvy, Beri-Beri etc'. Those old RDA's did not take into account the higher levels required for the vitamin and mineral functions in our bodies that were needed for maximum good health in humans: but, rather only for minimum good health.

Daily Allowances

Later studies have since shown that larger intakes of these micro nutrients are needed in order to ensure that our bodies are getting a sufficiently high level of vitamins and minerals, to allow us to radiate exuberant and maximum good health. These newer 'allowances' are now referred to as ODA's, (Optimum Daily Allowances), and are much more realistic.

It is an unfortunate fact nowadays that, in today's ultra busy world, we all lead such crazy frenetically busy lifestyles; and there are now so many more demands made on our time. Consequently, we are sometimes so busy that we often skip meals and tend to eat unhealthy snack type foods; so, we just don't get a proper balanced diet. This is another good sound reason why we should be complementing our dietary intake, where it is deemed necessary, with vitamin and mineral supplements.
